The 2015 Korea Grand Sale, which is an event that has been organized to elevate Korea’s stance as Asia’s shopping paradise and to attract overseas tourists during the low season, will take place from December 1, 2014 to February 22, 2015.

The Korea Grand Sale, which is an event hosted by the Visit Korea Committee and sponsored by Korea’s Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, offers excellent shopping opportunities in conjunction with deals on hotels and restaurants. Organized to offer an all-round tourist experience in Korea, it is a promotional event to stimulate tourist shopping. 126 companies, which include major department stores, duty free shops, hotels, discount stores, shopping malls, and performances that are popular among foreign tourists, and a total of 28,000 venues will take part in the promotion. They will all be offering discounts, events, and souvenirs during the event period.

This year’s 2015 Korea Grand Sale will begin this December, one month earlier than previous events, so that it will overlap with the Visit Korea Week. The purpose for doing so is to create synergy among participating companies and to offer bigger promotions. The goal is to create a festive year-end atmosphere for tourists who are visiting Korea.

The event period will be divided into three themed weeks of: must-see, must-do, and must-buy. Each week will offer different promotions and opportunities. Tourists will enjoy a one-plus-one promotion during the must-see week, which will be centered on acclaimed non-verbal performances. All participating entertainment companies will offer an exciting 50% discount on theme parks and events. The must-buy week is scheduled when winter turns to spring. During this period, participating companies will offer essential information and give out gifts depending on the amount of money spent. Municipal governments will offer local festival experiences and open the traditional markets to tourists during this time.

There will be a variety of online and offline promotions before, during, and after Korea Grand Sale to garner international attention and to attract tourists. Today (15th, October), an online survey was conducted on what information is the most necessary in preparing a shopping trip to Korea. This was done in conjunction with the official opening of Korea Grand Sale’s website. The results will be reflected in the website’s “shopping tips” section at: http://www.koreagrandsale.co.kr/en

Event booths will be set up during the entire duration of the event and will be offering the 888 Gift Event. Tourists who visit 8 participating venues and collect stamps will be given the opportunity to win a round-trip ticket and other gifts on every date that ends with the letter “8.” To celebrate this year’s promotional partner, the Japan Shopping Festival, Japanese tourists will be given specially designed shopping bags to commemorate the collaboration.

Other events available during the Korea Grand Sale are the airport welcome, the grand opening, a K-POP concert celebrating the Korea Grand Sale, mobile stamp collections, and more. The Mobile Tourism Service Centers will offer free wi-fi, cell phone charging, and other vital services for tourists.

The Visit Korea Committee invited over 100 event participants to the Nine Tree Convention on October 7th to introduce the 2015 Korea Grand Sale. Tomorrow (16th, October), the committee will sign a joint promotion MOU with the Japan Shopping Festival of the Japan Shopping Tourism Organization to cement Korea’s status as the ultimate shopping destination. More presentations will take place in China, Taiwan, and other Chinese-speaking countries, thereby, furthering the recognition of the Korea Grand Sales throughout the continent.

Katie Han, the Secretary-General of the Visit Korea Committee, said: “The 2015 Korea Grand Sale is not just about shopping. It encompasses Korean cuisine, Hallyu (Korean Wave), and the performing arts. It is an excellent opportunity for tourists to have a well-rounded Korean experience. This year we have signed an MOU with the Japan Shopping Festival to celebrate the upcoming 50th anniversary of their friendly ties. Our ultimate goal is to broaden the horizons of the Korea Grand Sales event through promotional and trading programs.”
