-
The Visit Korea Committee (VKC, Chairman Park
Sam-Koo) is hosting the 2018 Korea Grand Sale, a shopping & tourism
festival for foreigners, from January 18 (Thu) to February 28 (Wed) for a total
of 42 days. More than 700 companies and 52,000 stores participating in the
event from various industries including airline, accommodation, shopping,
beauty, food & beverages, and entertainment will provide product discounts,
gifts, and other services to foreigners.
At
the opening day on the 18th, a ‘kindness campaign’ targeting the
tourism industry will be carried out by 100 members of the ‘VKC Smile Korea’,
exemplary workers in the field of transportation, accommodation, information
centers, tourist police and more, at the Dongdaemun Doota Mall square to wish
for the success of the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics and to increase kindness
towards foreigners.
During
the KGS period, a mobile tourism interpretation information center will be
operated to provide free interpretation service, Wi-Fi and so on. Especially,
on the opening day there will be prizes galore, offering Soohorang &
Bandabi dolls for 100 foreigners on a first-come first-served basis. In
addition, foreigners who visit the event center with a purchase receipt of over
300,000 KRW during the event will be given the opportunity to participate in a
lucky draw. The winning prize is a 37.5gram ‘KGS gold medal’.
The VKC
jointly hosts the ‘Seoul Welcome Week’ with the Seoul Metropolitan Government
from January 26 to February 25. Additional tourist information centers will be
set up temporarily at the Incheon International Airport and Gimpo International
Airport, in addition to other major tourist spots such as Myeong-dong,
Gwanghwamun, Namsan, and Hongdae. The ‘Tourist Service Center(TSC)’ will
provide various services to foreign visitors visiting Gangwon Province.
In
addition, the VKC also provides benefits so that foreigners can easily enjoy
Gangwon Province and the coming 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics. Foreigners
will be able to enjoy the ‘G-shuttle’ and ‘K-Travel Bus’, which links Seoul and
Gangwon Province, free of charge. In addition, 1,000 foreigners who visit
Gangwon Province will be offered the ‘2018 special edition Korea Tour Card’.
According
to VKC Secretary-General Han Kyung-ah, “As this year’s Korea Grand Sale
overlaps with the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics, it will be a special festival
where incoming tourists and Olympic athletes and staff from all around the
world will be able to enjoy together.”
